Birds: Common Pauraque [Fugler: Pauraque Nattravn]

This time I want to share with you another well-camouflaged bird: Common Pauraque (Latin: Nyctidromus albicollis; Family of Caprimilgidae). It's not as big as Great Potoo, just about 25 cm long, but they have a few other shared characteristics in addition to cryptic plumage. Common Pauraque is a nocturnal bird that catches flying insects and beetles with a huge gaping mouth. Pauraques' bill is tiny. A male common pauraque has typical white outer tail feathers, while female has white-tipped tail.

Denne gangen vil jeg dele med dere bilder av en annen bra kamuflert fugleart - Pauraquenattravn (Nyctidromus albicollis; Nattravnfamilien). Denne arten er ikke like stor som Storpoto, bare ca. 25 cm lang, men den har mye mer til felles med putuar enn bare den kryptiske fjærdrakten. Pauraquenattravn fanger flyvende insekter og biller med sin store gapemunnen om natten, på likt med putuar. Nebbet til Pauraquenattravn er kjempe liten. Hann-fugler har karakteristiske hvite fjær ute langs halen, mens hunn-fugler har hvitt haletipp.

I got my shots of this bird in Manuel Antonio park in Costa Rica near one of the beaches during the sunny day. It's a bit strange to see a common pauraque relatively high on the tree as it nests on the ground. This one is a male, but on the photo it's not possible to see color of the tail, only its length. The tip of the tail is possible to see on the other side of the branch.

Dette bildet er tatt nær en strand i Manuel Antonio park, Costa Rica på en solrik dag. Det var ganske rart å se en pauraquenattravn så høyt på et tre mens de pleier å bygge sine reir nede på bakken. Det er en han-fugl, men det er dessverre ikke mulig å se fargen på halefjær fra disse bildene, bare lengden på halen. Hale-tippen stikker lit ut fra den andre siden av grenen.
